In counseling on the adaptation of healthy
dietary habits, the choice of foods isn’t the only necessary detail. The quarters
of good hygiene needs to be visited as well because, eating dirty fruits and
vegetables will never guarantee optimal health.
In times of disasters especially water/flood disaster,
the filth is spread everywhere and places that were supposedly neat are
rendered unhygienic.
It is in such times that cholera outbreaks
especially pips through the window if good hygiene is not observed.
Below are tips to keep you from opening the
window to such hygiene-related illnesses.
1. Wash all ingredients thoroughly preferably under
salted-water before cooking.
2. Do well to keep eat warm foods always.
3. Wash your hands with soap (preferably under running water) before you eat foods.
4. Cover all “waiting-meals” with a clean cloth to
prevent flies from settling them.
5. Drink only treated/clean water only.
6. Avoid street foods around the disaster area especially
raw vegetables (at least until things are
back to normal).
7. Its best you avoid eating in the open as this
might lead to unwanted contaminants finding their way into your food.
Observing the above
should work out a healthy journey through your pain of been affected by the
disaster and always remember GOOD HYGIENE is an indispensable part of the HEALTHY
EATING REGIME.
