WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE TO EAT FISH OVER OTHER MEAT | NUTALK

Fish and meat are almost ever-present in the meals of most people around the world. They don’t just enhance flavour but essentially provide mainly protein and other nutrients for absorption.

Chronic eating meat however, brings as a negative several unhealthy nutritional implications like increased risk of developing conditions like heart disease, hypertension, weight gain etc.
It is recommended that instead of going through the stress of trying to getting lean meat which might not be totally free of undesirable nutritional content, opt for fish.
Now let’s talk about why you should choose to eat fish and not meat.

DIGESTIBILITY
Fish (faster digestion) | Meat (Slower digestion)
Fish easily and quickly undergoes metabolism upon ingestion. This is due to its soft natural make-up. Compared to meat which will spend time in the stomach undergoing digestion (where protein digestion starts), fish is digested and nutrients made available for absorption much more quickly.

NUTRIENTS
Fish (more healthy nutrients) | Meat (Comparatively lesser healthy nutrients)
Fish and meat are excellent sources of protein however, the easy digestibility of fish means that, you provide the body with the much needed protein in no time after eating.
The two also contain fats.
The chunk of fats present in meat are saturated fats (bad fat) and fish contains what is called polyunsaturated fats (healthy fat) which actually causes the reduction in the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases like heart disease, hypertension etc.
Fish contain special kind of fats called Omega-3 fatty acid (eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), dicosahexanoic acid (DHA), and the essential fatty acid linolenic acid) which is also only present in human breast milk.
Most fish are also good sources of vitamin D and A which are not/or present in negligible amounts in meat.
As for minerals, fish is particularly a valuable source of calcium and phosphorus as well as iron, copper and selenium.
The Food and Agricultural association confirms that, saltwater fish have a high content of iodine.
