DIET, TODAY’S PRIMARY CAUSE OF CANCER | NUTALK

As illustrated in graph below, diet is today’s primary cancer causing factor. It is truly ironic that foods, which should provide health and life, should become the principal cause of cancer and death.

Something must be wrong with the dietary habits of the bulk of the developed world’s population.
They are eating too many animal-based foods, which promotes cancer relative to plant-based foods which help protect against it.

Since people in developing countries of which Ghana is part, consume more of plant-based foods, they are less prone to cancer caused by nutrition. However, with the current trend were people are of the view that, “all that comes from the west is the best” is gradually exposing developing countries to cancers caused by the diet choices.

Cancer is an uncontrolled proliferation of cells producing a substance (malignant tumor) that produce mutations or changes in genetic code of the cells. It invades surrounding tissues and its natural evolution leads to death.
Many of these mutations cause cells to become cancerous and thus, mutagens are also carcinogens.

Mutagens are formed when foods particularly meat products are fried or roasted.
